How to read server pricing and data transfer

How monthly data transfer, additional data transfer, and bandwidth fit into a server offer.

Paying for a VPN server is paying for a managed computing resource over a service period. Compare the monthly price with the server size, region, monthly data transfer, additional data transfer rate, and bandwidth.

The server offer

Your monthly price depends on the server size and location you choose. Costs can change by location, so the price and terms shown at checkout are the source for your purchase. This article does not invent prices that are not currently available.

The base charge covers the server and its management. It does not add a fee for each device. One account can add multiple WireGuard devices to its server, subject to the practical limits of the selected resource.

Monthly data transfer and data transfer usage

Monthly data transfer is the upload and download data included in the service period. The service measures data transfer usage for the server. In WireGuard, a transfer counter is a technical view of that usage.

If data transfer usage exceeds the monthly data transfer allowance, additional data transfer is billed at the stated rate per GiB after the original monthly period closes. The full monthly data transfer allowance applies even if the server is deleted during the period. The price and data transfer terms shown at checkout explain the charges.

Questions worth asking before purchase

Ask which resource the price buys, which region it uses, how much monthly data transfer is included, how additional data transfer is measured, what bandwidth applies, and when a usage period closes. Connections are not charged individually, but server capacity still bounds the number of connections.
